Most of us have used products that touched our skin everyday. For years... even decades. Rarely, if ever, did we think about whether or not those products were good for us and never did we think that they might be doing serious harm. We trusted them.
Then the class action lawsuits started. Thousands of us came forward, accusing brands we had trusted of harming us. In some cases. Making matters worse: they KNEW that their products were likely to do irreparable damage... AND THEY. DID. NOT. CARE.
These were brands that our grandmothers and mothers had trusted. WE had trusted them with our bodies, our children. We gave billions to build their empires and to make them household names. They were causing cancer and killing us, were told about it... AND THEY. DID. NOT. CARE.
We trusted them to care for us and about us, but they brands used ingredients that we didn't know about and chemicals that we couldn't pronounce and continued to do so even once they knew the impact to its consumers. There was ZERO transparency and even less accountability. Even now, they continue to fight the class action lawsuits, making it extremely clear to us: THEY. DO. NOT. CARE.
Message Received.
Mahogany Bees isn't that and we DO care.

No weird chemicals and you don't need a PhD to read our labels or the Rosetta Stone to decipher anything. We encourage you to do your own research, look up the ingredients listed on our labels and KNOW that there is total transparency.

Honestly, I struggle with talking about myself, so writing the "About the Founder" section has left me speechless for months. No small feat, by the way, for those who know me. It's mostly because we didn't do this for me . Mahogany Bees Skincare started out personal, but quickly grew to be bigger than me; this is really about and for YOU.
So that's who I want to talk to.
What's important to me, in a very real and honest way, is that you know how much these big brand name skincare companies don't care about you, your health or your family--though they act like they do. Oh they care about your MONEY and the spending power that we, as the BIPOC community, bring to the table, but they have no real interest or investment in US.
And believe me, I know how cliche it sounds to say that Mahogany Bees DOES care, but it's the simple truth. I care. I am a Black woman and I intimately know how difficult it's been to find skincare products that re effective and ACTUALLY created with us in mind, not as an afterthought. What's been really wild about this has been since the brand names "discovered" the benefits of shea butter, they've found a way to put it so many of the skincare and hair products made to target us. Have you noticed? Reminds me of the cocoa butter movement....but I digress.
Please know that Mahogany Bees has your best interest at heart. Our products are handcrafted with plant-based ingredients. Wherever possible, we source locally, keep it sustainable and try to support other small BIPOC businesses.
Let's be real though...do I want you to buy from us? Of course! But regardless, I want you to be more informed about the products you're using everyday--as well as the pros and cons. Read the labels and research the ingredients and ask yourself what those chemicals are that you can't pronounce and more importantly, what they're DOING TO YOU and your family.
